Oregon income tax in 2026
Oregon uses progressive brackets. Standard deduction: $2,910 single, $5,820 married filing jointly, $4,690 head of household. Each personal exemption is a $256 credit against tax.
| Rate | Single: taxable income over | Married jointly: over |
|---|---|---|
| 4.75% | $0 | $0 |
| 6.75% | $4,550 | $9,100 |
| 8.75% | $11,400 | $22,800 |
| 9.9% | $125,000 | $250,000 |
What makes Oregon different
Oregon has no sales tax and relies heavily on income tax: the 8.75% rate starts at only about $11,400 of taxable income, and the top rate is 9.9%. Partly offsetting that, Oregon lets moderate earners deduct some of their federal tax. Portland-area residents with high incomes face extra local income taxes.
- Oregon lets you subtract part of your federal income tax (up to $8,500 in 2025, phased out between $125,000 and $145,000 of AGI for single filers); the 2025 cap is used.
- The $256 personal exemption credit is not allowed above $100,000 of AGI ($200,000 joint).
- Employees also pay the statewide transit tax (0.1%) and Paid Leave Oregon contributions (60% of a 1% premium); these are not included.
- Portland-area residents may owe Metro Supportive Housing (1%) and Multnomah County Preschool for All (1.5%) taxes on taxable income above $125,000 ($200,000 joint), plus TriMet/Lane transit payroll taxes; these are not included.
