How to use the Time Zone Converter
- Pick the two cities. Choose the city or time zone you are converting from and to; every IANA zone is available.
- Set the date and time. Enter the local time in the first city. The date matters because daylight saving time changes offsets.
- Compare and share. Read the converted time and DST notes, add more cities to the hour grid, click an hour to convert it, and copy the share link.
How the conversion works
Every city is mapped to its IANA time zone (for example America/New_York or Asia/Kolkata), the same database used by phones, computers and servers. Your browser applies that zone’s rules for the exact date, so daylight saving time, and historical or future changes already in the database, are handled automatically.
Daylight saving time
The U.S. and Canada move clocks forward on the second Sunday in March and back on the first Sunday in November. The UK and EU change on the last Sundays of March and October, so for a few weeks each spring and fall the gap between New York and London is 4 hours instead of 5. Most of Asia, Africa and South America (and Arizona and Hawaii) don’t use DST, and in the Southern Hemisphere it runs roughly October to April.
Using the city grid
Each row shows one city’s local hours for the same 24-hour span. Green cells are typical working hours (9–5), dark cells are night (10 PM–7 AM). Click any hour to convert it, add cities to plan a meeting, and copy the share link to send the exact time to someone else.

What your results mean
The result is the same moment shown in the other city’s local time, including any date change. The notes show whether each city is on daylight saving time and when its clocks next change.
Tips
- Schedule recurring meetings in one city’s time; the other side’s time can shift when DST dates differ.
- Use the share link so everyone sees the exact same moment.
- Double-check around late March and early November, when U.S. and European DST dates differ.
Frequently asked questions
What time zone is New York in?
Eastern Time: EST (UTC−5) in winter and EDT (UTC−4) from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.
How many time zones are there?
There are about 38 distinct local UTC offsets in use, including half-hour and 45-minute offsets such as India (UTC+5:30) and Nepal (UTC+5:45).
Does the converter handle daylight saving time?
Yes. It uses the IANA time zone rules built into your browser for the date you choose, so DST is applied automatically.
What is the difference between EST and EDT?
EST (UTC−5) is Eastern Standard Time in winter; EDT (UTC−4) is Eastern Daylight Time from March to November. “Eastern Time” covers both.
How do I find a good meeting time across time zones?
Add each participant’s city to the grid and look for a column where every row is green (working hours).
